Jazlyn is such a wonderful model. She's only thirteen but she acted so professionally, taking direction really well and being open to all of my ideas. Unfortunately we didn't have much time for this shoot but I still got some great shots that I'm very happy with. Definitely keen to work with her again soon.

Behind the Scenes: Isiah Stevenson by Summah Noakes

A few weeks ago I helped Summah out with a couple of shoots. This one was with Isiah Stevenson, wearing clothing from Sidecar Menswear. His friend Vinnie also came along to assist.

It was a lovely day and they were a fun team to work with. I'll upload the rest of the photos soon to my personal facebook page. Be sure to check out Summah Noakes Photography page to see the final images from this project.

Behind the Scenes: Alex Searle by Summah Noakes

A few weeks ago I collaborated with my good friend and photographer, Summah Noakes. She was photographing Alex Searle in clothing from Trouble and Fox. I did the makeup and behind the scenes photography while Lili and Isaac assisted. They were an awesome group to work with. Everyone was very enthusiastic and we had fun scouting out locations around Nelson city.

I'm pretty proud of my makeup skills as it's not something I was trained in, although I do most of the makeup for my own projects, I really just make it up as I go along. I also discovered how much I love doing behind the scenes photography, there's no pressure and I just get to chill out and watch everything while capturing moments that would otherwise go unseen.

Be sure to check out Summah Noakes Photography page to see the final images and I'll be posting the rest of the behind the scenes shots soon on my personal facebook page (there's so many! I got a bit carried away).

Dove was undoubtably one of the best models I've worked with. She was open to all of my ideas, provided input in the creative process, seemed unfazed by the unfortunate weather conditions and was totally aware of every inch of her body when it came to posing.

We were both fans of Kirtsy Mitchell's photography and Dove suggested we use her as inspiration. So I did her makeup pale, with soft eyes and bold lips. I also loved the idea of covering her in autumn leaves, although everything was saturated from the pouring rain so we ended up only using a few. In the end it turned out perfect anyway.

The caterpillar eyebrows idea had randomly came to my mind a couple of weeks before this shoot so I was eager to test it out. And again my wonderful model remained totally calm as we placed the wriggling critters on her face.

Isaac did a great job as my assistant - holding the caterpillars, driving us to the location, keeping all of our gear dry, helping with lighting and keeping me on schedule!

I'm very happy with the images we created, it was hard to only choose a few for this blog post. More will be coming soon on my facebook page Maniana's Creations and at
